Miller and a free press
Armando from Daily Kos attempts to defend Judith Miller's decision to not reveal her anonymous source and go to jail. His basic argument is that anonymous sources are a requirement if we, through a free press, want to expose the worst government corruption. That, of course, is true. Very few people would be willing to comment on the record and risk their jobs (or more).
But that's not the case with Judith Miller. Her source wasn't exposing corruption, he is the potential source for the corruption.

Spineless editors MAY use this excuse to prevent the publishing of stories that used protected sources but there's no excuse for a reputable journalist to repeat partisan talking points OR accpet a part in a criminal conspiracy due to anonymity. Hanging your hat on the First Amendment when you're guilty of participating in criminal behavior or partisan political activity doesn't fly with me.

The First Amendment doesn't cover stenographers and willingly lying whores, only reporters. Judy "the Queen of Iraq" doesn't qualify.

Fitzpatrick now says he's possibly escalating Miller from civil to criminal contempt. What this means is that Miller is a player in the White House crime ring adn this is NOT about protecting sources. Like we didn't know she was dirty after her behavior on the issue of Iraq!
