'06 Sheriff

This is how the 2006 Knox County Sheriff's race stands right now.

1) I hear the argument used in the Shelby County term limits case is sound. I also hear that given the influence of Tennessee's Sheriff's lobby and the fact that the judges on the state Supreme Court are elected, that the decision of the Shelby County Superior Court is not likely to be upheld.

Which means that Sheriff Timmy will be in the race.

2) That Larry Hunter is running as a Republican, is a good man and has the support of prominent Democrats and Republicans. He also has some money coming his way.

3) That a Republican challenger in the primaries gives them months more free publicity and that any Democrat would get no news coverage until the general election.

So it comes down to whcih Republican gets elected? What other places in theh world can you name where they esentially have a one party system and how many are true democracies?
China? No.
Egypt? No.
And on and on.
We're no better off than these places with our ineffective one party system controlled by the Knox Good Old Boys (and everyone around here knows who they are and that they control everything like a Mafia.)

I hear you whining about 'Sheriff Timmy', Paul. The problem with your whining is that this will affect our government for the worst. Do you have any idea how many people, other that 'Sheriff Timmy', will be booted out of office. Maybe you like a bunch of new people, who have no clue how to run a government, taking care of business for you. No thanks from me. If the Supreme Court thinks like you, God help us. How about trying to find a candidate who can win. I understand it is hard to find a democratic candidate who can win anything but you should still try, instead of just boo-hooing about it. The way you sound, you already know the Democrat will lose. At least you are already resigned to failure. You won't have to attend any PEST support groups.

The people of Knox County voted for term limits Ron. Back in 1996.

The offices were created by the State Constitution. Are you sure that Knox Counties election was constitutional?

The Supreme Court decided a few years ago that the state Constitution protected those positions. But now there's a case from Shelby County with a similar law that's bringing the issue before the Supreme Court again.
